Des informations parvenues au bureau exécutif de RECOWACERAO NEWS AGENCY, RECOWA, à son siège social à Abidjan, la capitale de la Côte d’Ivoire, indiquent que le Saint-Père, le Pape François, avec sa magnanimité habituelle, a nommé un nouvel évêque pour le diocèse d’Ilorin, dans le lointain Nigeria, au Sous-région ouest-africaine.
Rappelons qu’à la suite du décès, le jour du Nouvel An 2022, de Mgr Paul Olawoore, évêque d’Ilorin (2018-2022) à l’âge de 60 ans, le pape François a décidé aujourd’hui de nommer un nouvel évêque effectif pour le diocèse d’Ilorin dans la personne du Très Révérend Père. Anselme Pendo Lawani. Jusqu’à sa nomination, le P. Paul est resté l’administrateur diocésain d’Ilorin.
En parcourant le chemin historique, notre correspondant a appris que Mgr Anselm Pendo Lawani est né le 12 septembre 1970 à Igarra, dans l’État d’Edo au Nigeria. Il a été ordonné prêtre le 15 août 2000 pour le clergé du diocèse d’Ilorin. Après avoir fréquenté le Grand Séminaire Saints Pierre et Paul à Bodija, Ibadan, il a obtenu sa maîtrise en théologie de l’Université Saint Mary of the Lake à Chicago, Illinois (États-Unis).
Il a occupé les charges suivantes : Vicaire paroissial à Saint-Joseph d’Osi (2000-2001) ; Curé adjoint de la paroisse Holy Angels de Chicago (2001-2005) ; Administrateur paroissial à Holy Angels à Chicago (2006); curé de Saint-Barthélemy de Kaiama (2006) ; curé de Saint-Antoine dans le Destin (2006-2010) ; Directeur des Vocations du Diocèse d’Ilorin (2008-2022) ; depuis 2008, membre du Collège des Consulteurs du Diocèse d’Ilorin ; curé de Saint-Antoine dans le Destin (2010-2012) ; curé de Saint-Cyprien à Offa/Erin-Ile (2012-2017) ; Doyen du doyenné d’Ilorin (2017-2023). Les archives indiquent que depuis 2017 jusqu’à aujourd’hui, il est administrateur paroissial de la cathédrale Saint-Joseph d’Ilorin et depuis 2022, administrateur diocésain d’Ilorin.

Foi ordenado sacerdote em 15 de agosto de 2000 para o clero da Diocese de Ilorin. Depois de frequentar o Seminário Maior Saints Peter and Paul em Bodija, Ibadan, obteve o título de Mestre em Divindade pela Universidade de Saint Mary of the Lake, em Chicago, Illinois (EUA).
Exerceu os seguintes cargos: Vigário Paroquial de St. Joseph em Osi (2000-2001); Pároco Assistente na Holy Angels em Chicago (2001-2005); Administrador Paroquial da Holy Angels em Chicago (2006); pároco de São Bartolomeu em Kaiama (2006); pároco de Santo António do Destino (2006-2010); Diretor das Vocações da Diocese de Ilorin (2008-2022); desde 2008, Membro do Colégio de Consultores da Diocese de Ilorin; pároco de Santo António do Destino (2010-2012); pároco de São Cipriano em Offa/Erin-Ile (2012-2017); Reitor do Ilorin Deanery (2017-2023). Há registros de que desde 2017 até agora ele é Administrador Paroquial da Catedral de São José, Ilorin, e desde 2022, Administrador Diocesano de Ilorin.
