In line with the clarion call by the Presidential Council of RECOWA-CERAO concerning this deadly disease called CORONAVIRUS, many Bishops’ Conference in Africa and beyond have taken definite stands of the critical situation we are in. We have published various positions of various Conferences in Africa. Today RECOWACERAO NEWS AGENCY (RECONA) joyfully brings to you the position and prescribed precautionary measures forwarded to the priests and laity in Burkina Faso by the Episcopal Conference of the Country.
Following the appearance of the first cases of coronavirus in Burkina Faso on Tuesday, March 10, the Catholic Church published a number of measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The Burkina Faso Ministry of Health organized a meeting with religious leaders after Tuesday Tuesday, March 10 registration of 2 cases of coronavirus. Following this meeting, the Burkina-Niger Episcopal Conference called on the whole Church to strictly respect the standards established by the health authorities.
Burkinabe Catholics are therefore asked to wash their hands regularly with soap or use a hydroalcoholic solution to rub them, to cover their mouth and nose with the crease of their elbow or with a handkerchief before coughing or sneezing, to consult in a health center in case of fever, cough and breathing difficulties. They should avoid contact with animals and the consumption of raw or undercooked animal products, and avoid close contact with people with coughs and colds, avoid spitting on the ground.
Measures to be observed during Eucharistic celebrations
More specifically during eucharistic celebrations, the bishops of Burkina Faso and Niger recommend refraining from the kiss of peace at mass and from handshakes and hugs inside and outside of liturgical and paraliturgical celebrations. In addition, communion in the body of Christ will only take place by receiving the Host by hand.
For priests, communion in the blood of Christ will be done only by extinction (by dipping the consecrated host in the consecrated wine) during concelebrations.

In addition, the faithful infected and affected by Covid-19 are invited to strictly follow the instructions of the Ministry of Health and to refrain from participating in community celebrations until their recovery.
In addition, the use of holy water in holy water fonts at the doors of churches is suspended and if holy water is used during a celebration, it will only be by sprinkling; no one will dip their fingers in it.
Ordinary and extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist are requested to use disinfectant soap or gel before and after the distribution of communion, as well as for those who work in the sacristy.
Finally, everyone is recommended to avoid, except for compelling reasons, travel to countries significantly affected by Covid-19.

Après l’apparition des premiers cas de coronavirus au Burkina Faso le mardi 10 mars, l’Église catholique a publié un certain nombre de mesures pour empêcher la propagation de Covid-19.
Le ministère de la Santé du Burkina Faso a organisé une réunion avec les chefs religieux après mardi mardi 10 mars l’enregistrement de 2 cas de coronavirus. Suite à cette rencontre, la Conférence épiscopale Burkina-Niger a appelé toute l’Église à respecter strictement les normes établies par les autorités sanitaires.
Les catholiques burkinabés sont donc invités à se laver régulièrement les mains au savon ou à utiliser une solution hydroalcoolique pour les frotter, à se couvrir la bouche et le nez avec le pli du coude ou avec un mouchoir avant de tousser ou d’éternuer, à consulter dans un centre de santé en cas de fièvre, toux et difficultés respiratoires. Ils doivent éviter le contact avec les animaux et la consommation de produits animaux crus ou insuffisamment cuits, éviter les contacts étroits avec les personnes souffrant de toux et de rhume, éviter de cracher sur le sol.
Mesures à observer lors des célébrations eucharistiques
Plus spécifiquement lors des célébrations eucharistiques, les évêques du Burkina Faso et du Niger recommandent de s’abstenir du baiser de paix à la messe et des poignées de main et des câlins à l’intérieur et à l’extérieur des célébrations liturgiques et paraliturgiques. De plus, la communion dans le corps du Christ n’aura lieu qu’en recevant l’Armée à la main.
Pour les prêtres, la communion dans le sang du Christ ne se fera que par extinction (en trempant l’hôte consacré dans le vin consacré) lors des concélébrations.

De plus, les fidèles infectés et affectés par Covid-19 sont invités à suivre strictement les instructions du ministère de la Santé et à s’abstenir de participer aux célébrations communautaires jusqu’à leur rétablissement.
De plus, l’utilisation de l’eau bénite dans les fontes d’eau bénite aux portes des églises est suspendue et si l’eau bénite est utilisée pendant une célébration, ce ne sera que par aspersion; personne n’y trempera ses doigts.
Les ministres ordinaires et extraordinaires de l’Eucharistie sont priés d’utiliser du savon ou du gel désinfectant avant et après la distribution de la communion, ainsi que pour ceux qui travaillent dans la sacristie.
Enfin, il est recommandé à tout le monde d’éviter, sauf pour des raisons impérieuses, de se rendre dans les pays fortement touchés par Covid-19.
