Il a également nommé Mgr Nwachukwu Observateur permanent auprès de l’Organisation mondiale du commerce (OMC) et représentant du Vatican auprès de l’Organisation internationale des migrations (OIM).
Cela était contenu dans une déclaration publiée ce week-end par le Bureau du Secrétariat de la Conférence épiscopale des Antilles, Port of Spain, Trinité-et-Tobago, où Mgr Nwachukwu est actuellement nonce apostolique.
Jusqu’à sa nomination, Nwachukwu a été transféré du Nicaragua à Trinité-et-Tobago le 4 novembre 2017 et a pris ses fonctions le 19 mars 2018.
Selon la nouvelle nomination, Mgr Nwachukwu restera toujours en charge de la Mission à Trinité-et-Tobago, dans les Caraïbes et aux Antilles, jusqu’à son départ pour la nouvelle mission aux Nations Unies en mars 2022.
L’archevêque Nwachukwu, né le 10 mai 1960 à Umuokoro, Eziama-Ntigha, dans le Conseil nord d’Isi-Ala Ngwa de l’État d’Abia, a été ordonné prêtre le 17 juin 1984.
En janvier 1972, il a été admis au séminaire de l’Immaculée Conception, Ahiaeke Umuahia à l’âge de 11 ans. En 1975, lui et certains de ses camarades de classe ont participé au dernier GCE de Londres, avant que le West African Examination Council (WAEC) ne prenne en charge l’organisation de examens de fin d’études secondaires.
Il a ensuite enseigné les mathématiques et le latin au séminaire jusqu’en 1977, date à laquelle il a été envoyé pour poursuivre sa formation sacerdotale à la faculté de philosophie nouvellement ouverte du Bigard Memorial Seminary à Ikot Ekpene, dans l’État d’Akwa Ibom.
Il a complété sa formation de séminaire à la Faculté de théologie du Bigard Memorial Seminary à Enugu de 1980 à 1984.
Il a réussi ses examens de baccalauréat en théologie en tant que meilleur étudiant diplômé et a prononcé le discours d’adieu à la remise des diplômes de sa classe. Le 17 juin 1984, feu l’évêque d’Umuahia, Rt. Le révérend Anthony Gogo Nwedo, l’a ordonné prêtre catholique pour le diocèse d’Umuahia, à l’église paroissiale Saint-Eugène d’Aba. Il a été transféré au diocèse d’Aba lors de sa création en 1990.
Après son ordination sacerdotale, Nwachukwu a travaillé comme enseignant et plus tard comme vice-recteur du Séminaire de l’Immaculée Conception, Umuahia, ainsi que vicaire paroissial et administrateur de la paroisse Sainte-Anne, Ibeku de 1984 à 1986.
Parallèlement, il a été directeur des vocations diocésaines, ainsi que l’aumônier du Collège fédéral d’agriculture et du campus Umuahia du Collège d’éducation Alvan Ikoku, Umudike-Umuahia, entre autres postes.
La nomination de l’archevêque Nwachukwu en tant qu’observateur permanent du Saint-Siège auprès de l’ONU a été annoncée le 17 décembre et publiée par le Bureau de presse du Saint-Siège.
L’archevêque d’origine nigériane représente le Saint-Père dans divers pays insulaires des Caraïbes, notamment Trinité-et-Tobago, Antigua-et-Barbuda, Sainte-Lucie, Grenade, Bahamas, Suriname et Belize, entre autres.
En tant que représentant du Saint-Siège auprès du bureau des Nations Unies et des agences spécialisées à Genève, Mgr Nwachukwu succède à Mgr Ivan Jurkovič qui a été nommé nonce apostolique au Canada.
Selon une déclaration du Bureau du Secrétariat de la Conférence épiscopale des Antilles, Mgr Nwachukwu « restera toujours en charge de la Mission ici à Trinité-et-Tobago, dans les Caraïbes et aux Antilles, jusqu’à ce qu’il parte pour la nouvelle mission, très probablement au début de mars 2022.
« Il (l’archevêque Nwachukwu) est sincèrement reconnaissant pour votre soutien au cours de sa mission dans cette région et vous demande de l’accompagner de vos prières et de votre amitié alors qu’il se prépare à assumer les nouvelles responsabilités », indique le communiqué du 17 décembre.
L’archevêque Nwachukwu a également été directeur des vocations diocésaines, ainsi qu’aumônier du Collège fédéral d’agriculture et du campus d’Umuahia du Collège d’éducation Alvan Ikoku, tous deux à Umudike-Umuahia.
Il a été enrôlé dans le service diplomatique du Saint-Siège le 1er juillet 1994 et a ensuite été déployé dans les nontiatures apostoliques, notamment au Ghana et au Paraguay.
Ancien élève de l’Université pontificale Saint Thomas d’Aquin, Angelicum à Rome où il a terminé ses études doctorales en droit canonique en 1996.
Sa première nomination en tant que nonce apostolique a eu lieu au Nicaragua en novembre 2012.
O Papa Francisco nomeou um sacerdote nigeriano da Diocese Católica de Abia State e Núncio Apostólico nas Antilhas, o Arcebispo Fortunatus Nwachukwu, como Observador Permanente da Santa Sé no Escritório das Nações Unidas e Instituições Especializadas em Genebra.
Ele também nomeou o Arcebispo Nwachukwu como Observador Permanente da Organização Mundial do Comércio (OMC) e representante do Vaticano na Organização para as Migrações Internacionais (OIM).

A nomeação do Arcebispo Nwachukwu como Observador Permanente da Santa Sé junto à ONU foi anunciada em 17 de dezembro e publicada pela Sala de Imprensa da Santa Sé.
O arcebispo nigeriano está representando o Santo Padre em vários países das ilhas do Caribe, incluindo Trinidad e Tobago, Antígua e Barbuda, Santa Lúcia, Granada, Bahamas, Suriname e Belize, entre outros.
Como representante da Santa Sé junto ao escritório da ONU e agências especializadas em Genebra, o arcebispo Nwachukwu sucede ao arcebispo Ivan Jurkovič, que foi nomeado núncio apostólico no Canadá.
De acordo com um comunicado do Escritório do Secretariado da Conferência Episcopal das Antilhas, o Arcebispo Nwachukwu “continuará encarregado da Missão aqui em Trinidad e Tobago, no Caribe e nas Antilhas, até que parta para a nova missão, provavelmente no início de Março de 2022. ”

O Arcebispo Nwachukwu também serviu como Diretor diocesano de vocações, bem como Capelão do Colégio Federal de Agricultura e do Campus Umuahia do Colégio de Educação Alvan Ikoku, ambos em Umudike-Umuahia.
Ele foi inscrito no serviço diplomático da Santa Sé em 1 de julho de 1994 e mais tarde foi destacado para Nuntiaturas Apostólicas, incluindo Gana e Paraguai.

Pope Francis has appointed a Nigerian priest of the Catholic Diocese of Abia State and Apostolic Nuncio to the Antilles, Archbishop Fortunatus Nwachukwu, as Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations Office and Specialized Institutions in Geneva.
He also appointed Archbishop Nwachukwu as Permanent Observer to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and representative of the Vatican to the International Migrations Organisation (IOM).
This was contained in a statement issued at the weekend by the Office of the Antilles Episcopal Conference Secretariat, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, where Archbishop Nwachukwu is currently serving as Apostolic Nuncio.
Until his appointment, Nwachukwu was transferred from Nicaragua to Trinidad and Tobago on November 4, 2017, and assumed office on March 19, 2018.
According to the new appointment, Archbishop Nwachukwu will still remain in charge of the Mission in Trinidad and Tobago, the Caribbean and Antilles, until he departs for the new mission at the United Nations in March 2022.
Archbishop Nwachukwu, who was born on May 10, 1960, in Umuokoro, Eziama-Ntigha, in Isi-Ala Ngwa North Council of Abia State, was ordained a priest on June 17, 1984.

After his priestly ordination, Nwachukwu worked as a teacher and later as vice-rector of the Immaculate Conception Seminary, Umuahia, as well as parochial vicar and administrator of the St Anne’s Parish, Ibeku from 1984 to 1986.
Concurrently, he served as the Diocesan vocations’ director, as well as the chaplain of the Federal College of Agriculture and the Umuahia Campus of Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Umudike-Umuahia, among other positions.
The appointment of Archbishop Nwachukwu as the Holy See Permanent Observer to the UN was announced December 17, and published by the Holy See Press Office.
The Nigerian-born Archbishop is representing the Holy Father in various Caribbean Island nations, including Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Bahamas, Suriname, and Belize, among others.
As a representative of the Holy See to UN office and Specialized Agencies in Geneva, Archbishop Nwachukwu succeeds Archbishop Ivan Jurkovič who was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Canada.
According to a statement from the Office of the Antilles Episcopal Conference Secretariat, Archbishop Nwachukwu “will still remain in charge of the Mission here in Trinidad and Tobago, the Caribbean and Antilles, until he departs for the new mission, most likely at the beginning of March 2022.”
“He (Archbishop Nwachukwu) is sincerely grateful for your support during his mission in this Region and requests that you please accompany him with your prayers and friendship as he prepares to embrace the new responsibilities,” the December 17 statement indicates.
Archbishop Nwachukwu also served as the Diocesan vocations Director, as well as Chaplain of the Federal College of Agriculture and the Umuahia Campus of Alvan Ikoku College of Education, both in Umudike-Umuahia.
He was enrolled in the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 1 July 1994 and was later deployed in Apostolic Nuntiatures including Ghana and Paraguay.
The alumnus of the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Angelicum in Rome where he completed his doctoral studies in Canon Law in 1996.
His first appointment as Apostolic Nuncio was to Nicaragua in November 2012.
