Cameroonian Catholic Diocese Thanks God, “Master and Protector of life”, as Bishop, Driver Discharged After Car Accident. This was contained in a report gathered from a sister Online journal.

The Catholic Diocese of Ebolowa in Cameroon is thanking God for protecting the Local Ordinary and his driver from harm after the duo were discharged from hospital following the June 29 Road accident.

 Bishop Philippe Alain Mbarga, his driver Mr. Belinga, and Sr. Monique Sophie Beyala were involved in an accident on the stretch of road between the bishop’s residence and the Cathedral.

According to a press release from the Gendarmerie Brigade, the morning accident occurred when the vehicle lost its brakes, forcing the driver to veer towards a slope in a desperate attempt to prevent a more catastrophic outcome. The impact left the car severely damaged, yet remarkably, all three occupants survived.

In a statement shared with ACI Africa on Friday, July 5, and made available to the Correspondent of RECOWACERAO NEWS AGENCY, RECONA, the Chancellor of Ebolowa Diocese announces with “thanksgiving to the Lord, Master, and Protector of life” the July 2 discharge of Bishop Mbarga and Mr. Belinga from Ebolowa District Hospital.

“As for the nun, who is out of danger, she is continuing her recovery at the hospital,” Fr. Georges Bertrand Melobo says in the statement dated July 3.

He adds that the Local Ordinary of Ebolowa Diocese, who doubles as Vice President of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon (NECC) “thanks all the People of God for their strong mobilization, their fervent prayers, and their gestures and messages of compassion.”

Bishop Mbarga, the Chancellor further says, “Thanks his fellow Bishops, Priests and Religious for the fraternity, communion and solidarity expressed.”

The Cameroonian Bishop, in a special way, “expresses his gratitude to the State of Cameroon, for its strong involvement in his recovery, as well as that of all the other victims of this accident,” Fr. Belobo says.

He adds that The Catholic Bishop “salutes and thanks the Ebolowa District Hospital medical team, led by Dr. Guy Roger Michel Ekono, for the professionalism and efficiency demonstrated during their intervention.”

Elected Vice President of NECC in April 2022, Bishop Mbarga is known for advocating for peace and justice in the Central African nation.
