Du 18 au 22 novembre 2023, la ville de Lagos, Nigeria, accueille un événement majeur : le jubilé du Comité épiscopal panafricain pour les communications sociales (CEPACS), qui célèbre fièrement ses 50 ans. Cette rencontre exceptionnelle réunit les délégués des médias catholiques d’Afrique , avec la participation de plus d’une vingtaine d’évêques du continent. Le thème central de cette célébration est “CEPACS 50 : vers la promotion d’une Église synodale en Afrique par le biais des communications sociales”.
Une Messe Solennelle et une Ouverture Majestueuse
Le jubilé a été inauguré le 19 novembre par une messe solennelle à la cathédrale de Lagos, présidée par le cardinal Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, archevêque de Kinshasa, et président en exercice du Symposium des conférences épiscopales d’Afrique et Madagascar (SCEAM). Parmi les dignitaires présents figuraient le cardinal Anthony O. Okogie, l’archevêque émérite, et Mgr Alfred Adewale Martins, l’archevêque métropolitain de Lagos. La cérémonie d’ouverture a également accueilli des personnalités éminentes, telles que le Dr Paolo Ruffini, préfet du dicastère pour la communication, venu spécialement de Rome, et le gouverneur de l’État de Lagos.
Le Défi de la Communication et la Mission du CEPACS
La cérémonie d’ouverture des travaux, qui s’est déroulée à Lumen Christi Catholic TV House, a été marquée par deux discours impactants. Tout d’abord, le discours du président du SCEAM a souligné l’importance de donner une visibilité accrue au CEPACS, une structure qui demeure selon lui peu connue. Le cardinal Ambongo a exhorté les participants à s’approprier cet outil pour permettre à l’Église d’Afrique de relever le défi majeur de la communication, conformément aux enseignements du récent synode sur la synodalité tenu à Rome.
Les Enjeux de la Communication selon le Préfet du Dicastère pour la Communication
Le préfet du dicastère pour la communication, le Dr Ruffini, a ensuite pris la parole pour aborder diverses problématiques cruciales, notamment la formation, la spiritualité, et la solidarité. En rappelant la vision de l’Église en matière de communications sociales, dévoilée par le Concile Vatican II à travers le décret Inter mirifica, le Dr Ruffini a annoncé le thème de la prochaine Journée mondiale des communications sociales : “Intelligence artificielle et sagesse humaine”.
Un Programme Riche en Communications et Interventions de Qualité
Pendant les travaux, les participants auront l’opportunité d’assister à une série de communications. Parmi les intervenants, notons la présence de Mgr Andrew Nkea Fuania, archevêque de Bamenda et président de la Conférence épiscopale nationale du Cameroun. From November 18 to 22, 2023, the city of Lagos, Nigeria, hosts a major event: the jubilee of the Pan-African Episcopal Committee for Social Communications (CEPACS), which proudly celebrates its 50th anniversary. This exceptional meeting brings together delegates from Catholic media from Africa, with the participation of more than twenty bishops from the continent. The central theme of this celebration is “CEPACS 50: towards the promotion of a synodal Church in Africa through social communications”.
A Solemn Mass and a Majestic Overture
The jubilee was inaugurated on November 19 with a solemn mass at Lagos Cathedral, presided over by Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, Archbishop of Kinshasa, and current president of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SEEAM). Among the dignitaries present were Cardinal Anthony O. Okogie, the Archbishop Emeritus, and Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Lagos. The opening ceremony was also attended by eminent personalities, such as Dr. Paolo Ruffini, Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication, who came specially from Rome, and the Governor of Lagos State.
The Communication Challenge and the Mission of CEPACS
The opening ceremony, which took place at Lumen Christi Catholic TV House, was marked by two impactful speeches. First of all, the speech of the president of SECAM underlined the importance of giving increased visibility to CEPACS, a structure which, according to him, remains little known. Cardinal Ambongo urged participants to appropriate this tool to enable the Church in Africa to meet the major challenge of communication, in accordance with the teachings of the recent synod on synodality held in Rome.
The Challenges of Communication according to the Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication
The prefect of the dicastery for communication, Dr. Ruffini, then took the floor to address various crucial issues, including formation, spirituality, and solidarity. Recalling the vision of the Church in matters of social communications, unveiled by the Second Vatican Council through the decree Inter mirifica, Dr. Ruffini announced the theme of the next World Communications Day: “Artificial Intelligence and Human Wisdom” .

O tema central desta celebração é “CEPACS 50: rumo à promoção de uma Igreja sinodal em África através da comunicação social”.

Em primeiro lugar, o discurso do presidente do SECAM sublinhou a importância de dar maior visibilidade ao CEPACS, estrutura que, segundo ele, continua pouco conhecida. O Cardeal Ambongo exortou os participantes a se apropriarem desta ferramenta para permitir que a Igreja em África enfrente o grande desafio da comunicação, de acordo com os ensinamentos do recente Sínodo sobre a sinodalidade realizado em Roma.

O prefeito do dicastério para a comunicação, Dr. Ruffini, tomou a palavra para abordar várias questões cruciais, incluindo formação, espiritualidade e solidariedade. Recordando a visão da Igreja em matéria de comunicação social, revelada pelo Concílio Vaticano II através do decreto Inter mirifica, o Dr. Ruffini anunciou o tema do próximo Dia Mundial das Comunicações: “Inteligência Artificial e Sabedoria Humana”.
