According to the vicar of the cathedral, Justin Fara Ounduno, the fire was started by an electrical short circuit. “In the early hours of the morning, we were in bed when the electricity went out. Moments later, the electricity came back in full force, and that’s when the fire started. at the level of the inverter”, he explained. “I woke up around 4 a.m., alerted by strange noises. Looking out the window, I discovered to my horror that the fire had taken over the whole building.”

The material damage is significant, as confirmed by the vicar. “There were twenty-four motorbikes belonging to the Catholic Organization for Human Promotion which were burned, as well as two generators and important documents and archives. There was also a disabled motorbike which was completely destroyed” , he said, adding that the value of all these losses was estimated at more than 264 million Guinean francs.

The vicar wanted to thank the firefighters for their rapid intervention which made it possible to limit the damage and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. He also called for help from the authorities and people of goodwill to help rebuild the church.

Il y avait aussi une mobylette d’handicapé qui a été complètement détruite”, a-t-il déclaré, ajoutant que la valeur de toutes ces pertes était estimée à plus de 264 millions de francs guinéens.

Le vicaire a tenu à remercier les sapeurs-pompiers pour leur intervention rapide qui a permis de limiter les dégâts et éviter que le feu ne se propage aux bâtiments adjacents. Il a également appelé à l’aide des autorités et des personnes de bonne volonté pour aider à la reconstruction de l’église.
