La liste des nouveaux cardinaux comprend huit d’Europe, six d’Asie, quatre d’Amérique centrale et latine et un d’Amérique du Nord. Cinq des cardinaux nouvellement nommés ont plus de 80 ans.
Actuellement, le Collège des cardinaux comprend 208 cardinaux ; parmi eux, 117 cardinaux ont moins de 80 ans et sont donc cardinaux électeurs ; les 91 autres sont des non-électeurs. De tous les cardinaux électeurs actuels, 67 ont été nommés par le pape François.

Le pape François a créé 13 nouveaux cardinaux, dont l’archevêque Antoine Kambanda de l’archidiocèse de Kigali au Rwanda, qui est devenu le tout premier cardinal de la nation enclavée de la vallée du Grand Rift située à la convergence entre le Région africaine des Grands Lacs et Afrique de l’Est.
Immédiatement après le consistoire de 2020, le pape François avait nommé 73 des membres du Collège des cardinaux éligibles pour voter pour un futur conclave. Le pape Benoît XVI, le prédécesseur immédiat du pape François, avait nommé 39 des cardinaux électeurs. Auparavant, Jean-Paul II avait nommé 16 cardinaux électeurs.

The list of the new Cardinals includes eight from Europe, six from Asia, four from Central and Latin America, and one from North America. Five of the newly named Cardinals are over the age of 80.
