Information reaching the executive office of the RECOWACERAO NEWS AGENCY, RECONA, has stated that the Catholic Men in Sierra Leone’s Freetown Archdiocese have been lauded for their “essential role as leaders and advocates for change.”

The President of Catholic Priests in Sierra Leone has praised Catholic men in the Archdiocese of Freetown for their vital role as leaders and agents of change, recognizing their ability to contribute to both spiritual growth and socio-economic development.

In a reflection on Wednesday, March 26, Fr. Peter Konteh also highlights various ways in which Catholic men can promote a strong foundation of faith and provide support both to the Church and their families.

“Catholic men in the Archdiocese of Freetown hold an essential role as leaders, servants, and advocates for change,” Fr. Konteh, who also serves as the Executive Director of Caritas Freetown, says in the reflection on his Facebook page.

He adds, “By uniting in faith and action with the Archbishop and the Diocese, they can significantly impact spiritual nourishment and socio-economic development, enriching the lives of their fellow parishioners and the broader community.”

Fr. Konteh explains that unity in faith can also go a long way in fostering a vibrant church that lives out the Gospel message in every facet of life.

He says that the role of Catholic men within the Archdiocese of Freetown is both vital and transformative, “significantly contributing to the spiritual and developmental landscape of our community.”

The award-winning Catholic priest, a member of the archdiocese’s clergy, proposes various ways through which the unity of Catholic men, the archbishop, and the entire Metropolitan See can promote a strong foundation of faith and support.

Fr. Konteh proposes spiritual leadership, saying, “Catholic men have a unique opportunity to serve as spiritual leaders within their families and communities. By embodying the values of Christ and actively living out their faith, they can inspire others to deepen their relationship with God.”

He also advocates for community engagement, urging Catholic men to participate in community initiatives by leading outreach programs, providing social services, and engaging in charitable activities. He says the men’s involvement in development initiatives not only enhances the church’s role in society but also fosters a culture of service and compassion.

Fr. Konteh further urges Catholic men to play their part in developing educational and vocational programs, empowering younger generations, an initiative he says will enable them to mentor youth and promote skill development, thereby contributing to building a more sustainable future.

“Strengthening family life is essential in our archdiocese,” he says, and adds, “Men can support and promote programs focused on marriage, fatherhood, and healthy family relationships, creating a solid foundation for both the church and the community.”

Fr. Konteh goes on to urge Catholic men to be on the forefront in the advocacy for justice and peace, saying, “Catholic men can take an active stance in advocating for justice, peace, and reconciliation within the community. By promoting dialogue and understanding, they help build a more harmonious society that reflects the teachings of Christ.”

In addition, Fr, Konteh urges Catholic men to collaborate with the Archbishop and other church leaders to contribute to the strategic planning and execution of programs that address both spiritual growth and social development needs within the Archdiocese.
