RECOWACERAO NEWS AGENCY (RECONA) is pleased to announce the appointment of His Excellency Msgr. Isaac-Jogues Kodjo Agbemenya GAGLO as the Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Lomé. This appointment comes shortly after the passing of Archbishop Nicodème Anani Barrigah of Lomé, who was called to God on August 4, 2024, after a long illness.

The official announcement of this appointment was made on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the Cathedral of Lomé by Msgr. Benoît Alowonou, Bishop of Kpalimé. Msgr. GAGLO, born on October 7, 1958, in Kpémé, has followed an exemplary academic and spiritual path. After completing his primary education in Agbodrafo, he entered the Saint-Pierre-Claver Seminary in Lomé and later the Saint-Gall Major Seminary in Ouidah, Benin, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in theology.

Ordained as a priest on August 9, 1985, by Pope John Paul II, Msgr. GAGLO has held various pastoral positions within the Archdiocese of Lomé. These include serving as vicar at the parish of the Ugandan Martyrs of Tokoin, a professor at the Saint-Pie X Minor Seminary in Lomé, and vicar at the Saint-Raphaël parish in Adeta, Kpalimé.

Continuing his education, he obtained a doctorate in Moral Theology in Innsbruck, Austria, in 1997. Upon returning to Togo, he joined the newly created Diocese of Aného, where he was appointed pastor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus parish in Adjido, while also serving as the personal secretary to Msgr. Paul Jean-Marie Dom Dossavi starting in 1998.

In September 2005, following the death of Msgr. Dossavi, Msgr. GAGLO was appointed diocesan administrator, before being named bishop by Pope Benedict XVI on December 3, 2007, and ordained on February 2, 2008. Currently, he holds a prominent position within the Church in Togo, being the second oldest in episcopal rank among the serving bishops and is responsible for the laity apostolate within the Episcopal Conference of Togo.

This appointment marks a significant turning point for the Archdiocese of Lomé, and the faithful are looking forward with hope and confidence to the continuation of his pastoral work.
