Présentant sa «Lettre d’introduction» aux Ordinaires locaux du Ghana le mercredi 9 septembre, Mgr Jagodzinski a promis de collaborer avec les évêques catholiques de la nation ouest-africaine.
«Je m’engage à rapprocher l’Église du Ghana et la communauté catholique de la mission et de l’Évangile du Christ», a déclaré Mgr Jagodzinski, originaire de Pologne, en présentant sa lettre d’introduction aux membres de la Conférence épiscopale catholique du Ghana (GCBC) dans un bref cérémonie au Secrétariat national catholique.
Le représentant du Saint-Père s’est également engagé à aider l’Église à grandir de force en force. Il a expliqué la raison de cette brève réunion en disant: «C’est une tradition que chaque nonce affecté à une mission doit apporter une lettre du secrétaire d’État du Vatican à la Conférence épiscopale du pays où le nonce est envoyé.
Le diplomate de 51 ans a remercié les membres de la GCBC pour l’accueil chaleureux qui lui a été réservé à son arrivée dans ce pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest le 8 septembre, fête de la Nativité de la Bienheureuse Vierge Marie. Nommé par le pape François comme neuvième nonce apostolique au Ghana le 3 mai, Mgr Jagodzinski a été ordonné prêtre en juin 1995.
Il est entré au service diplomatique du Saint-Siège en 2001. Depuis lors, il a servi dans les représentations pontificales en Biélorussie, en Croatie et en Inde ainsi que dans la section du Vatican pour les relations avec les États à la Secrétairerie d’État. De 2018 jusqu’à sa nomination le 3 mai comme nonce apostolique au Ghana, il a été nommé premier conseiller en Bosnie-Herzégovine et au Monténégro.
Il succède à l’archevêque Jean Marie Speich qui a été nonce dans la nation ouest-africaine pendant six ans d’août 2013 à mars 2019. Presenting his “Letter of Introduction” to Local Ordinaries in Ghana on Wednesday, September 9, Archbishop Jagodzinski promised to collaborate with the Catholic Bishops in the West African nation.
“I pledge to draw the Church in Ghana and the Catholic Community closer to the mission and Gospel of Christ,” Archbishop Jagodzinski who hails from Poland said while presenting his Introduction Letter to members of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) in a brief ceremony at the National Catholic Secretariat.
The representative of the Holy Father also pledged to help the Church to grow from strength to strength. He explained the reason behind the brief meeting saying, “It is a tradition that every Nuncio assigned to a mission should bring a letter from the Vatican’s Secretary of State to the Bishops Conference of the country to which the Nuncio is sent.”
The 51-year-old Diplomat thanked the members of GCBC for the warm reception he was accorded when he arrived in the West African country on September 8, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Appointed by Pope Francis as the ninth Apostolic Nuncio in Ghana on May 3, Archbishop Jagodzinski was ordained a Priest in June 1995.
He entered the Holy See diplomatic service in 2001. Since then, he has served in the Pontifical Representations in Belarus, Croatia, and India as well as the Vatican’s Section for Relations with States in the Secretariat of State. From 2018 until his May 3 appointment as Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, he was assigned as First Counsellor in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
He takes over from Archbishop Jean Marie Speich who served as Nuncio in the West African nation for six years from August 2013 to March 2019. The President of GCBC, Archbishop Philip Naameh who received Nuncio’s Letter of Introduction” assured the Nuncio of unflinching support and collaboration from the Local Ordinaries in Ghana for the growth of the Church in the West African nation.
