Dans le message, le P. Benoît, qui est membre de la Congrégation du Saint-Esprit (Spiritains) raconte l’incident de profanation en disant: «Un jeune homme non identifié, ivre ou drogué, s’est infiltré dans la grotte et a brisé en deux le Saint Sacrement exposé. Pire encore, il a pris l’ostensoir et la lunette du Corps du Christ dans son sac.
«Tout cela s’est passé en présence d’une dame et de quelques chrétiens qui priaient et qui ont observé l’incident sans nous en rendre compte», le P. Benoît dit et ajoute: «Un des marguilliers a demandé au jeune homme de quitter les lieux, sans savoir ce qu’il avait dans son sac.
Dans la déclaration, le curé de la paroisse réitère en outre: «C’est très grave et nous avons été très durement touchés. Nous, les prêtres et les religieuses de la paroisse, sommes indignés et tristes, mais nous tenons bon.
«Pourquoi, et qui a envoyé ce criminel vandaliser notre sanctuaire? Que faisons-nous en cette période de pandémie? » il interroge. Suite à cet épisode, la direction du ministère gabonais de l’Intérieur a chargé, dans un communiqué de presse du dimanche 13 septembre, les agences de sécurité du pays ouest-africain d’enquêter sur la question.
«Le ministre de l’Intérieur et garant de la sécurité publique condamne dans les termes les plus forts cet acte isolé et rassure le clergé et tous les gabonais que la lumière sera faite sur cet acte de vandalisme», indique la direction du ministère. L’incident a suscité des réactions sur les réseaux sociaux, certains partageant leurs sentiments dans des publications Facebook.
Ils n’attaquent pas les hommes, mais Dieu. S’ils ne se convertissent pas, ils subiront la colère de Dieu. Unissons-nous dans la prière pour la conversion de ces profanateurs », a déclaré Hyacinth Foe Nga. «Comment décrirons-nous un acteur aussi abominable ??? Seul Dieu saura nous construire. Prions », a écrit Claude Prosper Ketevi Pattey. Samuella Mintsa a posté: «Demandons la miséricorde de Dieu pour le Gabon et tous ceux qui ont participé à cet acte haineux, mais c’est dommage.»
Pour avancer, le P. Benoît XVI dit dans sa déclaration du 13 septembre: «Cher peuple de Dieu, chers paroissiens, mettons-nous à genoux ensemble et prions pour la réparation de cette grave faute». «Notre paroisse a besoin de purification», dit le clerc spiritain. Au Malawi, la chapelle du couvent des Sœurs Poverelle (PS) du diocèse de Mangochi a été profanée, dimanche 30 août. Les profanateurs se sont éloignés du Saint-Sacrement et ont consacré des hôtes dans le ciboire.
En avril, la plus ancienne cathédrale d’Afrique du Sud, Notre-Dame de la Fuite en Égypte dans l’archidiocèse du Cap a été profanée. Le même mois, la paroisse St. Mary’s Modeco, dans le diocèse de Morogoro en Tanzanie, a dû être temporairement fermée à la suite d’un incident de profanation aux premières heures du 27 avril.

Na mensagem, o pe. Bento XVI que é membro da Congregação do Espírito Santo (Espiritanos) narra o incidente da profanação dizendo: “Um jovem não identificado, bêbado ou drogado, infiltrou-se na gruta e partiu em dois o Santíssimo Sacramento exposto. Pior ainda, ele levou o custódia e a luneta do Corpo de Cristo em sua bolsa. ”
“Tudo isso aconteceu na presença de uma senhora e de alguns cristãos que oravam e observaram o acontecimento sem nos comunicar”, pe. Bento XVI diz e acrescenta: “Um dos guardiões da Igreja pediu ao jovem que deixasse o local, sem saber o que tinha na bolsa”.
No comunicado, o Pároco reitera ainda: “É muito grave e temos sido muito atingidos. Nós, padres e freiras da Paróquia, estamos indignados e tristes, mas estamos nos segurando ”.
“Por que, e quem enviou este criminoso para vandalizar nosso santuário? O que fazemos neste tempo de pandemia? ” ele pergunta. Após o episódio, a liderança do Ministério do Interior do Gabão instruiu, em um comunicado à imprensa no domingo, 13 de setembro, as agências de segurança do país da África Ocidental a investigarem o assunto.
“O Ministro do Interior e garante da segurança pública condena com a maior veemência este ato isolado e reafirma ao Clero e a todos os gaboneses que será lançada luz sobre este ato de vandalismo”, afirma a direção do Ministério. O incidente gerou reações nas redes sociais, com alguns compartilhando seus sentimentos em postagens no Facebook.

The Priest in charge of a renowned parish in Gabon’s Libreville Archdiocese has described the September 12 desecration of the Church in which the man involved made away with the monstrance and the lunette as being “stabbed in the heart.”
“Our Parish has just been stabbed in the heart. It is very serious and we have been hit really hard,” the Parish of Les Rois Mages, Akebe Ville in the Archdiocese of Libreville, Fr. Benedict Dieme says in his Sunday, September 13 statement obtained by ACI Africa and made available to RECOWACERAO NEWS AGENCY, RECONA.
In the message, the Fr. Benedict who is a member of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (Spiritans) narrates the desecration incident saying, “An unidentified young man, drunk or drugged, infiltrated the grotto and broke in two the exposed Blessed Sacrament. Worst still, he took the monstrance and the lunette of the Body of Christ in his bag.”
“All this happened in the presence of a lady and some Christians who were praying and who observed the incident without reporting to us,” Fr. Benedict says and adds, “One of the Churchwardens asked the young man to leave the place, without knowing what he had in his bag.”
In the statement, the Parish Priest further reiterates, “It is very serious and we have been hit really hard. We, the priests and nuns of the Parish are outraged and sad, but we are holding on.”
“Why, and who sent this criminal to vandalize our sanctuary? What do we do in this time of the pandemic?” he queries. Following the episode, the leadership of Gabon’s Ministry of Interior instructed, in a Sunday, September 13 press release, security agencies in the West African country to investigate the matter.
“The Minister of the Interior and guarantor of public security condemns this isolated act in the strongest possible terms and reassures the Clergy and all Gabonese that light will be shed on this act of vandalism,” says the leadership of the Ministry. The incident has drawn reactions on social media with some sharing their sentiments in Facebook posts.

As a way forward, Fr. Benedict says in his September 13 statement, “Dear people of God, dear parishioners, let us go down on our knees together and pray for the reparation of this serious fault.” “Our Parish needs purification,” the Spiritan Cleric says. In Malawi, the Chapel at the convent of Poverelle Sisters (PS) in Mangochi Diocese was desecrated, Sunday, August 30. The desecrators made away with the Blessed Sacrament and consecrated hosts in the ciborium.
In April, the oldest Cathedral in South Africa, Our Lady of the Flight into Egypt in the Archdiocese of Cape Town was desecrated. In the same month, St. Mary’s Modeco Parish in Tanzania’s Morogoro Diocese had to be temporarily closed following an incident of desecration in the early hours of April 27.
