I send you greetings of peace and grace from RECOWA Secretariat, Abuja, Nigeria.

The first month of 2023 is about coming to an end. I found it pertinent to give you an update on the happenings in RECOWA.

  1. On 11 and 12 January 2023, the funeral of Cardinal Richard Bawoobr took place in Wa in Ghana. RECOWA was represented by Most Rev. Joseph Afrifa, the first Vice-President of RECOWA. We continue to commend him to divine mercy.
  2. From 3-9 February 2023 the Standing Committee of RECOWA will meet in Conakry, Guinea. The Standing Committee is composed of the three members of the Presidential Council, the Presidents of the eight Episcopal Commissions of RECOWA, the President of the Financial Committee of RECOWA and the Presidents of the eleven national and interterritorial conferences of RECOWA with the participation of the Secretaries General of RECOWA.
  3. From 31 January -5 February 2023 the Holy Father, Pope Francis will be visiting Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan. RECOWA will be represented at DRC by Most Rev. Matthew H. Kukah, Bishop of Sokoto Diocese of Nigeria.
  4. From 9-13 February 2023 in Cotonou, Benin, the assembly of men and women religious of West Africa will be held under the auspices of RECOMSWA.
  5. On 9 February 2023 Msgr Anthony Ehweredo, elected on 28 December 2022, will be ordained the Bishop of Warri Diocese in Nigeria.
  6. On 11 February 2023 Msgr Robert Cissé, elected on 14 December 2022, will be ordained the Bishop of Sikasso Diocese in Mali.
  7. On 18 February 2023 Msgr Joseph Aka, the Former Secretary General of RECOWA, elected on 28 December 2022, will be ordained the Bishop of Yamoussoukro in Côte d’Ivoire.
  8. On 13 April 2023 Msgr Mark Maigida Nzukwein, elected on 14 December 2022, will be consecrated the bishop of a diocese that has just been created, the Diocese of Wukari in Nigeria.
  9. From 1 to 6 March 2023 the continental celebration of the synod in synodality will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. CERAO will be represented by 21 people chosen through all the national and inter-territorial conferences of CERAO.
  10. From 27-31 March 2023, the Secretaries General of the national and interterritorial conferences of RECOWA region will hold a capacity building workshop on advocacy and meeting on the decisions of the Plenary Assembly and Standing Committee of RECOWA.

Le premier mois de l’année 2023 touche à sa fin. J’ai trouvé pertinent de vous partager quelques nouvelles des CERAO.

  1. Le 11 et 12 janvier ont eu lieu les obsèques du Cardinal Richard BAWOOBR à Wa, in Ghana. CERAO a été représenté par Mgr Joseph AFRIFA, le premier Vice-Président des CERAO. Nous continuons à le recommander à la miséricorde divine.
  2. Du 3 au 9 février 2023, le Conseil permanent des CERAO se réunira à Conakry, en Guinée. Le Conseil Permanent est composé des trois membres du Conseil de Présidence, des Présidents des huit Commissions épiscopales des CERAO, du Président du Comité Finance des CERAO et des Présidents des onze conférences nationales et interterritoriales des CERAO avec la participation des Secrétaires Généraux des CERAO.

 

  1. Du 31 janvier au 5 février 2023, le Saint-Père, le Pape François se rendra à Kinshasa, en République Démocratique du Congo et au Soudan du Sud. CERAO sera représenté en RDC par Mgr Matthew H. KUKAH, évêque du diocèse de Sokoto au Nigeria.
  2. Du 9-13 février 2023 à Cotonou au Benin se tiendra l’assemblée des religieux et religieuses de l’Afrique de l’Ouest réunis au sein de l’URCAO.

 

  1. Le 9 février 2023, Mgr Anthony Ehwerido, nommé le 28 décembre 2022, sera ordonné évêque du diocèse de Warri au Nigeria.

 

  1. Le 11 février2023, Mgr Robert Cissé, nommé le 14 décembre 2022 sera ordonné évêque du diocèse de Sikasso au Mali.

 

 

  1. Le 18 février 2023, Mgr Joseph Aka, Ancien Secrétaire Général des CERAO, nommé le 28 décembre 2023 sera consacré Evêque de Yamoussoukro en Côte d’Ivoire.

 

  1. Le 13 avril 2023, Mgr Mark Maigida Nzukwein, nommé le 14 décembre 2023 sera consacré évêque d’un diocèse qui vient d’être créé, le diocèse de Wukari au Nigeria.

 

  1. Du 1 au 6 mars 2023 la célébration continentale du synode en synodalité aura lieu à Addis Ababa en Ethiopie. CERAO sera représentée par 21 personnes choisies à travers toutes les conférences nationales et interetrritoriales des CERAO.

 

  1. Du 27 au 31 mars 2023, les Secrétaires Généraux des conférences nationales et interterritoriales de la région CERAO tiendront un atelier de renforcement des capacités sur le plaidoyer et une réunion sur les décisions de l’Assemblée plénière et du Conseil Permanent des CERAO.
